Chorus Auditions first week of school in August

Dear Parents of Rising 3rd, 4th and 5th Graders,

The award-winning Eastvalley Eagle Chorus is auditioning for new members this August! The 2009-2010 chorus will rehearse every Monday afternoon from 2:30—3:30 PM.

If your child would like to audition for this acclaimed group, try-outs will be held before and after school on August 11-14.

Returning Eastvalley Eagle Chorus members are not required to re-audition.

The audition consists of intonation/pitch-matching skills, tonal memory, and singing one verse of the patriotic song,

“America” demonstrating good tone quality, pitch and breath control. I have included the words to this song, and the music may be found on many websites including:

My country tis of thee,

Sweet land of liberty,

Of thee I sing.

Land where my fathers died!

Land of the Pilgrim's pride!

From every mountain side,

Let freedom ring!

Good luck!

The chorus will sing the National Anthem at the Braves game on Monday, September 28! Order tickets using this form!Download Eastvalley Braves 2009 Ticket Order Form

Eastvalley Eagle Chorus Shines in Dalmatian Spots!

The Eastvalley Eagle Chorus did a great job at the Broadway Junior Theater Festival today! As a chorus, our strength is our singing, and we played to that strength at the competition. We are proud of the kids for their hard work, and the judges gave us many tips on how to make the show better before our public performance on May 14 and 15!

Broadway Junior Theater Festival Press Release

Press Release:

Eastvalley Elementary School’s Eagle Chorus members will have an amazing experience at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre on Saturday and Sunday, January 17-18, 2009! In the 2009 international Broadway Junior Theatre Festival, the chorus will sing, dance, and act a 15-minute segment from the Disney Kids musical 101 Dalmations for a panel of renowned judges. After the Saturday morning competition, the students will attend workshops in singing, acting, and choreography while the directors, Mr. Bernard, Mrs. Steinheimer, and Dr. Cunningham attend workshops in various aspects of theatre such as Innovative Ideas for Scenic Design, Extreme Theater Games, Fund Raising and Budgeting Sensations, Recruiting Boys, Building Better Talent, and the Director’s Tool Chest. One girl and one boy from every school will be selected by the adjudicators to join the Junior Theater Festival All Stars. This select group of students will work together in their own Student Intensive Workshops, and learn an All-Star only group number to perform at Sunday’s awards ceremony.

The chorus will return on Sunday for Q&A with special guest stars and judges such as American Idol’s Michael Orland and others (past guests include Zac Efron and Christy Carlson Romano). The excitement of the event will be accentuated with an afternoon awards ceremony, followed by a live performance at the Fabulous Fox Theater of Disney’s Tarzan!

Between events such as the America Sings! Festival and the Broadway Junior Theater Festival, the Eastvalley Eagle Chorus typically performs in national or international events every year. In prior years at the Broadway Junior Theater Festival, the judges were very complimentary of the beautiful tone quality produced by the chorus, and of the excellent acting by the main characters. In fact, Eastvalley won the award for “Outstanding Musical Performance” in 2005 and “Outstanding Performance by a Female Lead” in 2003. From states as far away as California, Texas, and Maine, and even from other countries, student groups come to compete at the festival. This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

The Eastvalley Elementary School Eagle Chorus will perform the complete musical, Disney Kids 101 Dalmations for the public on May 14-15, 2009. Tickets are available by contacting the school office or Mr. Bernard at Anthony.Bernard@CobbK12.org or 770-578-7214 x244.

Eastvalley Elementary School is located at 2570 Lower Roswell Road in Marietta, Georgia.

Big Chorus Trip on January 17-18

Go to http://www.itheatrics.com/juniortheater.html to find out about the Broadway Junior Theater Festival at the Hilton and the Fox Theatre in Atlanta.

The last two times we attended, we came away with a "Best Actress" award (2002) and a best "Musical Performance" award (2004), even though we were the youngest group there each time!

To help pay for the trip, we will do a bit of fundraising. From the attached brochure, you can see that the registration cost for each child and each chaperon is $125 plus meals and transportation. We estimate that the total cost will be below $200 per person. That cost is well worth the experience of working with professional directors, choreographers, and musicians, plus this year, they have included a ticket to see Disney's Tarzan at the Fox as a culminating activity.  Download junior_theater_festival_2009_brochure.pdf

I am so excited about this opportunity! See you soon!
