Upcoming Chorus Performances
The kids did a great job singing on Feb 7! Please review the words of the songs with them because it's been a while since we rehearsed! See words at bottom of this email.
Also, a note from my county music supervisor:
the Marietta-based Georgia Youth Choir has openings for opportunities for children ages 8-18 to be part of their quality traditional choral music! The choir also has a week-long choir festival/camp June 2-6, 2008. Please feel free to pass this weblink along to any children and parents that you think may be interested.
Thank you! www.georgiayouthchoir.org
Please remember,
The Chorus Festival is on Friday, February 29, 2008.
It is important that your child practice the chorus music at home every day, if possible, and attend every rehearsal.
Please ask your child to practice the chorus music daily so they don't forget what we've worked on. Thanks!
REMINDERS:
1.This is a reminder of our upcoming Large Group Choral Performance Evaluation Festival on Friday, February 29, 2008. We will leave Eastvalley at 8:00 am and we will perform at 9:15. This event takes place at the Piedmont Baptist Church, 570 Piedmont Road, Marietta, Georgia. You are all invited to attend this free event, so come if you can. If you would like to chaperone this trip, please let me know. We will need at least one parent with us at all times. The children will return to school in time for regular lunch. There is no cost to you for this field trip! Cobb County is paying for the busses and for the substitute teacher to cover my regular music classes.
3. On March 6, we will sing for the Cobb County Principals during the school day. More details to come in a few weeks!
Chorus uniforms are required for these performances: Chorus shirt, solid black pants (no stripes), black socks and BLACK shoes (solid black tennis shoes are OK). There are to be no markings on the shoes. (Hint: if there is a little color on the shoes, cover it with black tape.)
Mrs. Steinheimer and I enjoy working with your children in the extra-curricular Eastvalley Eagle Chorus. Please support the efforts of the children and the directors by ensuring that the students are practicing at home, and please have their uniforms ready for February 7th.
Thanks so much for your support.
Sally Gardens by W. B. Yeats
Lyrics:
(softly)
Down by the Sally gardens, my love and I did meet, (breathe)
She passed the Sally gardens with little snow-white feet. (breathe)
(louder)
She bid me take love easy as the leaves grow on the tree, (breathe)
But I being young and foolish with her did not agree. (breathe)
(softer)
In a field by the river my love and I did stand, (breathe)
And on my leaning shoulder she laid her snow-white hand; (breathe)
(getting louder)
She bid me take life easy as the grass grows on the weirs, (breathe)
(getting MUCH softer)
But I was young and foolish, and now am full of tears. (breathe)
Jubilate Deo by Michael Praetorius
Lyrics:
Jubilate Deo
Jubilate Deo
Jubilate Deo
Jubilate Deo
Jubilate Deo
Jubilate Deo
Jubilate Deo
Jubilate Deo
Jubilate Deo
Jubilate Deo
Jubilate Deo
Jubilate Deo
(Most of the kids have the words memorized for Jubilate Deo.)
Thanks!
