Dear Chorus Members and Parents,
Congratulations, and welcome back to the Eastvalley Eagle Chorus!
We rehearse every MONDAY, beginning on September 12, from 2:30 until 3:30, except as noted on the calendar. Plan to participate in every rehearsal for the entire time—missing a rehearsal or leaving early will earn a strike. There are no rehearsals on school holidays or when school has been cancelled for inclement weather. EVERY REHEARSAL is required, so make plans now for a prompt 3:30 pickup. Students who are not picked up by 3:40 will go to the AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM (ASP). If you wish to use ASP, please make arrangements with them using the ASP registration forms.
DISMISSAL: There will be a folder with Chorus members listed by grade level outside of the cafeteria. Everyone must come into the building to sign their child out on this form. If someone else is picking up your child, just like in the regular classroom, we will need a note giving us this information. Chorus students will be dismissed from this sign out list. ASP students will sign in at the ASP desk after Chorus.
Please download, sign and return the RETURNING MEMBER Eastvalley Eagle Chorus forms from the top of this website. Please turn these in to Dr. Bernard on or before the first rehearsal, MONDAY, September 12. To save paper, all chorus communication this year will be via email/website unless you make arrangements with Dr. Bernard to receive paper copies.
Our Chorus uniform will be the same as in prior years. Chorus members will wear black pants, blue Chorus shirt tucked in, black shoes and black socks. It is preferred that the pants are black slacks but nice (not faded) black jeans will be allowed. Blue jeans are not allowed. If you need a new one, Chorus shirts are available through the school for $17. If needed, place money for the Chorus shirt in the school’s white deposit envelope and mark it “other: chorus shirt.”
The Chorus fee this year is $20 to help defray the cost of sheet music, transportation, and other chorus-related expenses (elementary music programs are given a $0.00 budget from Cobb County). Please make the check to Eastvalley, place this fee in one of our school’s white deposit envelopes and check other—CHORUS FEE. Be sure to write CHORUS FEE on the envelope and on the check so it will go to the right account. A few need-based scholarships are available—contact Dr. Bernard for more information.
Again, congratulations, and we look forward to seeing you at the East Cobber Festival on September 10 at 11:30. Thanks for helping to make this a great year at Eastvalley!

The Star-Spangled Banner
Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

Dear Parents of 3rd, 4th and 5th Graders,
The award-winning Eastvalley Eagle Chorus is auditioning for new members this August! The 2011-2012 chorus will rehearse every Monday afternoon from 2:30—3:30 PM. Our musical will be Elfis and the Elves Get All Shook Up!
If your child would like to audition for this acclaimed group, try-outs will be held before and after school on the following dates:
August 29, 30, 31, Sept 1 from 7:10-7:45 AM;
August 29, 31, Sept 1 from 2:30-3:15 PM.
Returning Eastvalley Eagle Chorus members are not required to re-audition.
The audition consists of intonation/pitch-matching skills, tonal memory, and singing one verse of the patriotic song “America” demonstrating good tone quality, pitch and breath control. I have included the words to this song, and the music may be found on many websites including:
http://www.hymnsite.com/lyrics/umh697.sht
http://www.niehs.nih.gov/kids/lyrics/mycountry.htm
My country tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty,
Of thee I sing.
Land where my fathers died!
Land of the Pilgrim's pride!
From every mountain side,
Let freedom ring!
Good luck!

The Eastvalley Eagle Chorus will sing the National Anthem at the Kennesaw State University basketball game on Saturday, January 22nd! This is officially "Eastvalley Night at KSU." We want to see everyone there! Chorus members should report to the “Convocation Center” (Gym) at KSU by 7 PM on Saturday. Wear the full uniform—black shoes, socks, pants, and the chorus uniform shirt. We will sing the National Anthem at 7:20 PM. |
|
Kennesaw State University is located in Cobb County, 20 minutes north of Atlanta on I-75 one exit north of Town Center Mall. Take the Chastain Road Exit number 271 and turn left if northbound on I-75. Go to the third light if northbound (second if southbound) and turn right onto Kennesaw State University Drive just beyond the soccer field on your right. Continue straight for about one tenth of a mile and park in the Welcome Center lot. The gym is just past the parking lot towards the right of the parking deck entrance. |

Dear Parents,
Please remind your child to bring the Elfis and Annie scripts on Monday. Yet again last week a few students earned a strike for not having their Elfis and/or Annie script during chorus. Please let us know if your child has lost the script so we can replace it. Also, thank you for taking the time to help your child with learning lines/pronunciation--the Annie scripts are written on a middle school level, so many of the words are unfamiliar to our kids. Elfis cast, please practice your lines in a mirror so you can be VERY expressive and loud enough to hear from the back row of the cafeteria! Important Dates: November 15: Butter Braids Delivered (frozen)! Bring a cooler for pickup. (5th graders may pick up upon returning from Driftwood).
December 2: 6:30-7:15 Elfis and the Sleighriders! Chorus Holiday Musical!
