CHORUS AUDITIONS September 4-7, 2007

Dear Parents of Rising 3rd, 4th and 5th Graders,

The award-winning Eastvalley Eagle Chorus is auditioning for new members! The 2007-2008 chorus will rehearse every Tuesday afternoon from 2:30—3:30 PM.

The 2007-2008 Eastvalley Eagle Chorus has outstanding potential. If your child would like to audition for this acclaimed group, try-outs will be held beginning September 4, 2007 from 7:15-7:45 AM on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday morning and from 2:30-3:00 PM on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons. Returning Eastvalley Eagle Chorus members are not required to re-audition.

The audition consists of intonation/pitch-matching skills, tonal memory, and singing one verse of the patriotic song,

“America” demonstrating good tone quality, pitch and breath control. I have included the words to this song, and the music may be found on many websites including:

My country tis of thee,

Sweet land of liberty,

Of thee I sing.

Land where my fathers died!

Land of the Pilgrim's pride!

From every mountain side,

Let freedom ring!

Good luck!

International Night 2007! Chorus Rocks! Middle Eastern Drums Rule!

International Night, March 9, was a great success. The Eastvalley PTA did a fabulous job of coordinating the tables, food, and entertainment to make this one of the most enjoyable events of the year! Thanks to all the families who participated by attending, and special thanks to those of you who shared your cultural heritage with the Eastvalley community.

The Eastvalley Eagle Chorus began the evening's entertainment with our National Anthem, The Star Spangled Banner, and then sang Frere Jacques as a 4-part round with xylophone and metallophone accompaniment. They continued with a tribute to our troops, You Are Our Heroes. They concluded with Wind on the Hill, followed by a powerful rock song with an anti-drug message, My Mind is Mine! As always, the chorus sounded terrific.

Next was an exhibition of Middle Eastern Drumming performed by several Eastvalley students. In the near future, I hope to post a video of the drum performance.

Eastvalley Eagle Chorus Flies High at Festival

The Eastvalley Eagle Chorus rose to the occasion at the 2007 Georgia Music Educators Association Performance Evaluation Festival, held on February 15, 2007. The chorus sang brilliantly on their two selections, Wind on the Hill and One Wish. All three judges awarded the chorus the highest score possible, Superior, for their spectacular achievement. Sadly, the chorus rating was lowered to Excellent due to a "rules violation;" we had no one to play the Soprano Recorder accompaniment on one of the songs, which violated the rule that all written parts would be played/sung. Still, the chorus is proud of their beautiful sound. It is becoming rare to find a chorus with such a light and gentle tone quality.

Eastvalley Eagle Chorus, we are proud of you!Eastvalley_chorus_festival_2_15_07  Eastvalley_chorus_at_festival_2_15_07_5

Thank You

Dear Eastvalley Chorus and Chorus Parents:

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for a wonderful year.  We accomplished quite a bit in a very short amount of time.  The Chorus got an Excellent at Festival, we performed at International Night and recorded a song for our troops.

We have enjoyed working with each and every student.  Those students leaving Eastvalley for East Cobb or other schools, we wish the very best.  To our returning students, have a wonderful summer and we will see you next fall.

Mr. Bernard and Mrs. Steinheimer
