BACKPACKS
Our Kindergarten classrooms are very busy every morning and the students are expected to check inside their own backpacks each morning. Please encourage your child to be responsible for checking his/her backpack daily and discuss with your child any notes or items that need to be removed from backpacks and given to the teacher.
BIRTHDAYS
We like to celebrate birthdays in Kindergarten! If you would like to provide a birthday treat to share with classmates during lunch on your child’s birthday or half-birthday (for summer time birthdays), please follow these guidelines:
Notify your child’s teacher if you would like to send in treats so that students with food allergies can be accommodated.
Treats should be packaged individually so that they may be handled without threat of contamination.
Also... we sincerely ask for your help with this problem. If you do provide treats for your child's class, please, please, please do not share extra treats with friends from other classrooms. We have the safety of the students in mind as well as the "Fairness Factor" of who gets the extra treats and who does not.
BIRTHDAY INVITATIONS
Birthday party invitations CANNOT be handed out at school under any circumstances. Please make arrangements to send invitations another way.
COMMUNICATION FOLDER (blue)
Students will bring home one blue communication folder each day. This folder will contain the student’s work samples as well as flyers from school and PTA, newsletters and any personal communication from the teacher regarding your child. From home, parents may use this folder to send in payment envelopes, notes, or return forms to the school. The Communication Folder should be carried home and returned to school daily.
DISMISSAL
The teachers at Eastvalley always have your child’s safety in mind, so please remember that all changes in dismissal plans should be made in writing. If your child’s dismissal plans change after the beginning of the school day, the school must be notified.
Also, please be aware that CCSD has established a new requirement for students riding home on a bus other than their regular bus or disembarking at an alternate bus stop. Parents should fill out a bus pass whenever your child is riding a different bus home or going to a different bus stop. Download Bus-pass-8-2
DRESS CODE
The students participate in physical education two times a week but they are engaged in physical activities every day. Each student should wear appropriate clothing and footwear every day.
When cooler weather approaches, the students are expected to wear appropriate outerwear anytime the temperature drops below 50 degrees.
Classroom climates can be somewhat unpredictable. It is usually best for students to come dressed in clothing that can be layered.
Please label EVERYTHING that your child wears particularly coats, hats and mittens. These items are frequently misplaced.
STUDENTS SHOULD NOT WEAR THE FOLLOWING:
Flip-flops/Crocs
Tanks tops/spaghetti straps
Halter tops
Short-shorts/Mini-skirts
Please visit the Cobb County Dress Code JICA for further information.
LUNCH
For students buying school lunches, parents may set up a lunch account through Cobb County Food Services. In addition to the daily menu choices, students may also choose from several a la carte items (ice cream, chips, pastries, etc). It is your responsibility to determine what you will allow your student to purchase through their lunch account.
Students are allowed to charge a meal to their account two times. After two charges, students will be given an alternate meal until the account is paid. Please visit this link for more information regarding lunch accounts and Cobb County Food Services.
LUNCH TIME VISITORS
Family members are welcome to join their students for lunch. However, we ask that you PLEASE refrain from bringing fast food or food from other restaurant sources when you visit. Bringing food from outside sources does not support our school lunch program. We ask that you reserve those treats for after school or weekends.
PAYMENTS/MONEY COLLECTION
To avoid confusion when sending in money for purchases, payments, or donations it is always best to place it an envelope that is clearly labeled with your child’s name, teacher’s name and the purpose of the money.
TARDIES AND ABSENCES
Regular school attendance is critical to the learning process. However, if your child does need to be absent from school, please send in a written note explaining the reason for his or her absence. The Georgia Compulsory Attendance law and the No Child Left Behind Act requires us to code each absence as excused or unexcused. Excused absences include illness, religious holidays, or family emergencies. Failure to provide a written excuse for an absence within 3 days of a student 's return to school will be coded as unexcused.
After Five Absences - The teacher will contact the parent or guardian by telephone, note, e-mail or parental conference regarding attendance
After Ten Absences - A letter will be sent from a school administrator to the parent or guardian regarding attendance.
After Fifteen Absences - A school administrator shall confer with a School Social Worker to determine whether a referral is warranted, at this time.
We encourage you to have students at school by 7:40 each day. This gives students plenty of time to unpack their backpacks and prepare for the day. Students are considered tardy if they are not in the classroom at 7:50. Tardy students must be signed in by a parent in the office and receive a late pass.
After Ten Tardies - A letter will be sent from the school administrator to the parent or guardian regarding missed instructional time.
After Fifteen Tardies - The school administrator shall confer with a School Social Worker to determine whether a referral is warranted, at this time.
For more information regarding attendance, see CCSD Board Administrative Rule J.
