Eastvalley 4th and 5th grade students were given the amazing opportunity to hear Dr. Terry Roberts, one of the Little Rock 9, him speak about his experiences. We were very honored to have him come to Eastvalley and would like to thank him for coming. His daughter Mrs. Goodloe (a Eastvalley parent) and Mrs. Covington (Target teacher) made this visit possible.
Dr. Roberts during his time at Central High School

Terrence Roberts, age 15, facing the Arkansas National Guard on September 4, 1957. When we looked at this photo together, Terrence told me, "I can't believe how calm I looked on the outside. I didn't feel calm on the inside."

Dr. Roberts talked about civil responsibility. When talking about making the decision to be part of the Little Rock 9, the students asked him if he was afraid. He said he volunteered to be a part of the group because he knew it was not about himself, but the idea of change. He spoke to students about having goal directed behavior and challenged them to read a book a week!
Thank you so much for coming Dr. Roberts!
