Week of March 21, 2011

THANK YOU!  What a week the staff had last week.  Your generosity helped provide several meals, a staff lucnh, and several gifts.  Thanks for helping us feel special last week!:)

Spelling - We will be working on high priority words for this quarter.  The Spelling lists will be the words that your child should be able to spell correctly every day.  This will be great preparation for the 4th grade.  Students completed pre-tests on Friday.  Students may be on different weeks.  Check your child's agenda for the week's list that they need to be studying.  Students need to write their spelling words on index cards and should use them to study the words every day.  Just like our other lists, I have set up practice lists online on www.spellingcity.com.  Click on this link to download the high priority words:  Download Spelling Word master list for 4th qtr - high priority words

Homework Changes -

(1) Due to the change of Spelling words to priority words, we will no longer be doing the previous Spelling homework.  Students will be studying these words on their own.  They should keep their index cards for review in their green folder in case their is time to practice them with a classmate. 

(2)Daily CRCT review homework will be sent home and is expected to be completed each evening. Some students will also be given CRCT review reading packets.  It is expected that they be completed and checked at home.  They will not be reviewed for accuracy at school.

 (3)Daily reading must also be completed.  Log their reading this week in their agenda.  New reading logs will be sent home next Monday.

CCSD Persuasive Writing Assessment - Wed./Thurs., 3/23 - 3/24/11

Report Cards - Report cards for Quarter 3 will be going home on Thursday.  Please let me know if you would like to meet to discuss your child's progress.  It is hard to believe that we are starting our final quarter of school for this school year.

 

 

 

 

Week of March 14 - Update

THANK YOU!!!  The staff has had such a special week at Eastvalley this week.  Thank you to all of you that contributed to the Staff Appreciation Week.  With your generous donation, the PTA was able to provide meals for the staff several times this week.  One of our Partners in Education, the Tae Kwon Do studio that offers lessons onsite even joined in by bringing breakfast one morning.  All of the teachers are being treated to a breakfast this morning.  Again, thank you.  I just wanted you to know that I love this "little school with the big heart" and I especially love your children!  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Library Books - We always go to the library as a class on Monday mornings.  Please help your child remember to pack up their library books on Sunday night.  Many students were not able to check out a book today because they had left their books at home. 

Spelling - Due to the upcoming summative assessments, your child will not have Spelling words this week.  Be on the lookout for a change to spelling practice.  The new program will start next week with a total revision of the homework structure.  This change is being made to help students master the third grade priority words and allow homework time for grammar/language arts topic review for the upcoming CRCT.

OAS Practice - If you have computer access at home, please help your child access the OAS (online CRCT practice) system.  Log on information was sent home for a second time last week. 

Summative Assessment Schedule - Please keep in minde that your child has many important summative assessments over the next two weeks.  Keep this in mind if you are scheduling doctor's appointments.

Week of March 7, 2011

Spelling:  The words for this week are:  Download Sort 22 words  This week your child will be learning about the different spelling patterns for the long e sound and the long i sound.  The content words deal with the units we are working on dealing with President and First Lady Roosevelt (FDR - not Teddy).  Remember, encourage your child to go on www.spellingcity.com to practice their words! 

High Touch High Tech - We will have a session at the school on Wednesday to explore and play with magnets.  This hands on in-house field trip has been na favorite of my students in previous years.  There are still several outstanding field trip forms and outstanding payments.  The deadline for the form and payment is Monday.  An alternative educational experience will be provided if your child has not submitted his/her field trip form. 

Book Fair & Science Night - The Book Fair will be at Eastvalley this week.  Our class is going to the book fair to right up our wishlists on Monday morning.  Your child will be able to go to the book fair every morning except Thursday next week to purchase books.  Science Night will be on Thursday, Mar. 10th from 6:30 - 7:45 p.m. 

Talent Showcase - The schoolwide Talent Showcase will be on Thursday and will start promptly at 6:30 p.m.  There are some amazingly talented students competing this year.  Come join in all of the fun!

OAS CRCT Practice -  The information regarding how to log into the online CRCT practice will be sent home again on Monday.  Please encourage your child to do some of the practice tests.  If your child goes on line, please have them send the results to me.  As they finish tests, the system will ask your child if they want their results sent to their teacher - click "Yes."  Practice can only help.  If your child has difficulty sitting for extended periods of time, these practice sessions can help prepare them for extended periods of quite and sitting still. 

Habitat Report - We are almost through with our habitat reports!!!  Every child has worked very hard on this report.  You will be amazed at the finished product when it comes home. 

Wish List - If I could wish for any particular items, it would be for the large pink erasers, pencil top erasers, and #2 pencils.
