We are pleased to inform you that the Cobb County School District has added an additional safety feature to the current surveillance system that we have at Eastvalley Elementary School. Earlier this year, 8 high definition cameras were installed in our building which allows us to view activity inside and outside the building 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. The cameras, in addition to the Access Control System (electronic/badge entry) that has been in place for a few years, work to form our strongest system of security and supervision ever.
The NEW feature which will take effect tomorrow, Tuesday, April 23, is a “buzz in” door lock system at the main entrance of our school. This feature will keep the main entrance door locked at all times except 7:00-8:10 a.m. on school days. Outside of that specific time frame, all guests to our school will need to “buzz in.” Part of the system includes a box outside of the main entrance door that is equipped with a door bell and camera. Staff members working in the front office will receive an alert when a guest arrive and rings the bell. The office staff will be able to see and hear the guest, and once the guest shows an ID and states the nature of their business, the office staff will “buzz in” the guest, asking them to report to the main office to sign in.
It will require cooperation on the part of all of our parents and other guests to school so please remember:
1. You must always present your ID and let the office staff know why you are visiting at the “buzz in” camera. We are going to ask everyone, every time you come to the door. Please know this is for the safety of everyone, especially our students. Please do not allow other adults to enter with you/hold the door for them as we must buzz each person in separately.
2. The door is locked at 8:10 so please work hard to have your child bring everything they need to school so you won’t have to make a special trip to school to deliver something to them. If you must deliver, make sure you have your ID with you when you come to the door. The office staff will not be able to go to the door and get a lunch/jacket/homework/etc.
3. There will be no dismissal after 1:45 to ensure a safe and orderly dismissal process. Please do not come after 1:45 to pick your child up for appointments, etc. If you are late to pick them up, they will be dismissed during regular dismissal times.
We know that you will join us in thanking Cobb County School District for being on the forefront of adding additional safety and security measures for your child(ren). We appreciate your cooperation as we transition into using this newest safety feature. Thank for working with us to keep everyone safe!

Thanks to all of you who were in the audience for the Eastvalley Eagle Chorus' production of Willy Wonka KIDS. You helped make it a huge success!
Our Kindergarteners are performing three songs on stage at Eastvalley on May 16, 2013 (at about 5:25 PM) before the "Kindergarten Tour." Look for more details to come soon!
Highlights from this month in music class:
4th and 5th graders are learning to sing and play (on Soprano Recorder) Native American Indian music from many different tribes including Cherokee, Chippewa, and Navajo. They're also listening to a song by the South African a capella group Ladysmith Black Mambazo. See their website here www.mambazo.com (I'm having trouble making the link work, but you may cut and paste it into your browser.)
4th and 5th graders will also begin learning Second Line percussion arrangements that I learned on my recent trip to New Orleans!
3rd graders are singing a folk song from Morocco and learning to play Soprano Recorder.
2nd graders are singing and moving to multicultural songs about spring and patriotic songs such as America.
1st graders are singing and moving to songs from New Zealand, and singing and playing American folk songs on instruments.
Our Kindergarteners are learning songs to sing and play on stage on May 16, 2013 (at about 5:25 PM) before the "Kindergarten Tour."
The last several weeks of this school year will be rich with music!
