First Grade Target students,

I hope everyone has a wonderful break from school. Let's hope the weather stays sunny and warm! Enjoy time with your family and friends, and stay healthy. I hope you are enjoying our study of Cinderella and all of our new brainteasers and thinking puzzles. This week we learned that we are all smart in different ways. Did you share your multiple intelligence strengths with your parents? Have a great time on your break, and I'll see you next Friday!

Please continue to work on your GBR project. Many of you have finished, way to go! GBR projects are due the week of March 14. Remember, your GBR project should reflect higher-level thinking and should relate to our current unit. If you have questions, please e-mail Mrs. Covington.

Week of Feb. 7-11

Dear 2nd and 3rd Grade Cardiologist,

RIDDLE: What did the rib cage say to the heart?

(Hint: It has something to do with the location of the rib cage and heart.)

Did you enjoy our heart vocabulary Bingo game? You did a good job listening and finding the correct words to match each definition. You should have all your vocabulary cards finished by now. Keep studying and learning each heart part!

Next week, second graders will take their heart quiz. Third grade took their quiz this week. We'll go over them together in class. Also, you will begin a new group project. You'll need to be creative and work together to build a new type of heart model. More information coming next week!

Please be sure you have started planning your GBR project. Have you gathered your materials? ALL projects are due the week of March 14. Let me know if you need help coming up with a project idea.

HOMEWORK: Work on your GBR project and study your heart parts and vocabulary words.

Week of Feb. 7-11

Dear 4th and 5th grade Herpatologist,

Riddle: Why are frogs always happy? Let's see who can figure out the answer! (Clue: Think about a frog's diet.)

We had a busy day looking at advertisements and learning about effective appeals. After analyzing and identyfing different appeals in magazines, you selected your own to create a real estate ad for a frog's habitat. Perhaps, one of you will create a Super Bowl ad one day!

I think everyone enjoyed the special vocabulary Bingo game! Remember to review your frog vocabulary, we may have a POP quiz one day in class.

HOMEWORK:

4th grade- Five Frog Logic Puzzle and study frog vocabulary

5th grade- Finish frog advertisement and bring in an ad to share with a specific appeal

5th grade current event group: False-eyed fire bellied frogs

What is the biggest change you've experienced in your life? Can change be good or bad? Can you adapt to change, if so, how?

Week of February 7-11

Dear First Grade Target Students,

We had a fun day comparing and contrasting Cinderella stories, and we read a new story called Bubba, the Cowboy Prince. You did a great job using your higher level thinking skills to complete your Venn diagram.

Next week, we will share more shoe boxes and use our deductive “detective” thinking skills. Also, we will learn more about our multiple intelligences and how we are all smart in different ways. I can’t wait to see you!

HOMEWORK: Complete the Valentine’s Day puzzles (2-sided worksheet)

WEEKLY QUESTION: Valentine’s Day is a time to tell your friends and family how much you care for them. Write about who is special to you and draw a picture of your family and/or friends.

Week of Jan. 31-Feb. 4

Fourth and Fifth Grade Herpatologists,

We had a great week learning about the scientific classification of living things. Now, we understand more about how frogs are classified and how we distinguish them based on common attributes. Do you remember a mneumonic device for remembering the 7-step classification system? (Hint: It has to do with a King!) 

Next week, we will take a closer look at frogs and their habitats. Also, we will spend time with Hands-On-Equations and building equations with verbal word problems. 

HOMEWORK: Read the classification of toads and frogs. Complete the Venn Diagram on the back (write the descriptions, do not cut).

WEEKLY QUESTION: Write a letter to Mrs. Covington. Tell her what you are going to do for your GBR project. ALL projects are due the week of March 14 (or earlier).  

Week of Jan.31-Feb. 4

Dear Second and Third Grade Cardiologists,

We had a fantastic week learning more about heart parts and the circulation of blood flow in and out of the heart. I am very proud of your "heart" work! Start practicing your words and learning the location of each part.

Next week, we will have a special guest speaker come to talk to us about heart health. I know you will enjoy learning from her and learning more about how to take care of your heart.

Second Grade HOMEWORK: Label and study heart parts diagram.

Third Grade HOMEWORK: Finish your heart vocabulary cards. Also, study your heart diagram and learn the location of each heart part. You will have a QUIZ this week!!!

WEEKLY QUESTION: Write a letter to Mrs. Covington. Tell her what you are planning on doing for you GBR project. GBR projects are due the week of March 14!!!

Week of Jan. 31- Feb. 4

Dear First Grader DEDUCTIVE THINKERS, 

We had a short day together, but I enjoyed our time learning. You did a good job with your deductive thinking this morning. Did you enjoy solving the logic puzzle with your partner? We will practice more puzzles together next week.

Next week, we will continue to study our Cinderellas around the world with a new story. We will compare and contrast our stories by creating a Venn diagram and labeling the setting of each story on a world map. Were you able to name the seven continents? We will learn a new song to help us remember all of them.

HOMEWORK: Read a fairy tale. Look for the fairy tale elements we have been discussing in class (magic, special words, royalty, etc.)?

WEEKLY QUESTION: Write a letter to Mrs. Covington. Tell her what you are good at doing and what makes you unique. Next week in class, we will be talking about all the ways we are smart!
