First Graders,
Powerpoint Presentations, logic puzzles, mental math, Earth Day, Cinderella stories, AND MORE! We had a full day together. I'm proud of your hard work. We will be working cooperatively to complete our Power Point presentations over the next several weeks.I can't wait to see your final copies!
Weekly Question: Today we talked about Earth Day and how we can help take care of the Earth. Brainstorm a list of simple things that you can do to help care for the Earth.
Homework: No extra assignment this week, just complete your brainstorm list.
SPECIAL ANNOUCEMENT:
We will be having first grade Target on WEDNESDAY, April 27, for this coming week only. We had to switch the date around to accomodate a special program for another grade level. Please come prepared for class on Wednesday!
Second and Third Grade Cardiologists,
I'm glad I was able to see my third graders, but I really missed seeing the second graders. As you know, I have been assisting Dr. Doolittle with the CRCT testing and make-ups. We will get back on track this coming week!
We've been working hard with our cooperative learning groups to create a short presentation on a specific physical heart problem. You may want to bring research from home or materials you'd like to use with your group's presentation. We'll finish preparing and present next week!

WEEKLY QUESTION: One of our heart expressions is to say that someone is "good-hearted." A good-hearted person is someone who is kind, considerate, and helpful. Name 3 people in your life who are "good-hearted" and tell why you feel this way. Name 3 people who are "cold-hearted".
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!!
We will have a special guest speaker from St. Joseph's hospital to talk with us on Monday, May 2nd. Third graders, this will be your Target day. You will come to Target at 9:00 that morning.
Mrs. Hersh works at St. Joseph's Hospital in the Cardiovascular Intensive care unit. She helps recover patients who have had heart bypass surgery, valvular surgery, heart transplants and any surgical heart procedures.
I know you will enjoy this special visitor who is also Mrs. Osburn's good friend!

Fourth and Fifth Grade Herpetologists,
We had a fantastic week! I know this is a busy time of the year for everyone. However, it is an exciting and fun time as we wrap up the school year. We are currently working in cooperative learning groups to create a new species of a frog. Please remember the following things before coming to class next week:
1. Homework/Weekly Question: In your journal, write about your new frog species. Tell what special adaptations it has that enable it to survive in its location/environment. Be sure to include why these adaptations are so important to the frog's survival.
2. Bring research information that you can share with your frog species group. You may want to print a map of your frog's location or research more about its specific habitat. Bring your info to class!
3. FIELD TRIP UPDATE! We are returning to Sibley Pond on Thursday, May 5th. This will be your Target day for that week. I have already notified your homeroom teachers about the change. We are looking forward to completing our field study with Ranger Hightower. Please check with your parents if you need to order a sack lunch!!! Parents, we'd love to have you join us on May 5th from 9:45-1:00, or as long as you can come.
4. FROG FROLIC Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area program is coming up! Please meet me at the Cochran Shoals- Interstate North location on Friday, May 6, at 8:30 p.m. We will enjoy a campfire and then hike along the river and wetlands to listen and learn more about the frogs and nocturnal wildlife. Marshmellows and songs included!
Please e-mail Mrs. Covington or tell her in class if you'd like me to make a reservation for you and your family. I need to know by Friday, April 29. All are welcome!

5. FROG FRENZY!!! We will celebrate all of learning by sharing our new frog species at our international amphibian conference. Fourth Grade will share on Tuesday, May 17. Fifth grade will share on Wednesday, May 18. More details to come! Be thinking of a green frog food or special frog recipe (that is edible for humans too) that your group would like to share. Hint: Mrs. Covington likes sweets!!!

Hello Target Students,
It has been a busy week of CRCT testing for 3rd-5th graders. I also helped administer testing, so I was unable to have a full day with you. Next week, we'll be back to our normal schedule. Yeah!
Second graders, you are the only group that has a homework sheet to finish up with. Please finish your crossword puzzle, "Cross Your Heart". We will go over it together next week.
Also, reminder to everyone, you will not be required to complete an independent GBR project this nine-weeks of school. Due to all of our interuptions and schedule changes, you are not required to complete one outside of school. HOWEVER, you will be working on a project at school with a small group. Please come to class ready to work hard and show cooperative learning. We will share projects in May.
WEEKLY QUESTION (for everyone): Write a letter to Mrs. Covington. Tell her what you've enjoyed about Target this year. Tell her what you've liked about your unit and something that you would change about it. Be honest! I appreciate your feedback.

Hello,
Just a reminder that the 3rd-5th graders will be taking the CRCT this week. Therefore, we will not have a full day of Target together. I will come and pick you up from your classrooms when testing is over. Please bring your Target materials, and be flexible as our time will be shortened! Good luck and do your best on your test!
FROG FROLIC CHANGE!!!! PLEASE READ!!!
We are now planning on going to the frog frolic on Friday, MAY 6th, 8:30-10:30 p.m., instead of April 29th. The chorus will be performing their musical, Annie, and I know many of you are in the chorus. We all will come and watch you that night instead!
Please let me know if you are interested in coming. I hope we can get a large group of us. It will be fun!

Happy Spring Break!
The birds are chirping, the daffodils are blooming, and the sun is shining. It is spring time! I hope everyone has a wonderful, relaxing break with your family and friends. Make time to relax, read a book, and play outside!
There is no Target homework over the break. Please read over a few highlights for each grade level listed below. NO weekly question! Optional, write Mrs. Covington a letter and tell her about your break.

Second and Third Grade- Optional Research! You may want to go ahead and print out some information on your heart group research topic. You will be working with your group to finish up your research after spring break!

I am hoping that some of you and your family members will join me at the Frog Frolic program on Friday evening, April 29th at 8:30 p.m. Join us for a fantastic evening with a guided night hike along the river and wetlands. Start the evening with songs around a campfire while roasting marshmellows. Walk with Ranger Hightower and listen to all the frogs!
If you are interested in going, please tell Mrs. Covington when we return from Spring Break!
