Farewell, my fifth graders!

 I wrote a little poem to say goodbye,

I will keep it short and sweet, so I will not cry.

Most of you I’ve known for all of your Eastvalley time,

You’ve matured, grown-up, oh so-fine.

 We’ve learned so much together, more than you know,

You are ready to soar to new heights, now go!

Always remember your roots, and remember where you came,

You are growing wiser, you will never be the same.

 Work hard, stretch your brain, and always do your best,

I’m proud of who you  are, you’ve flown from your EV nest!

Week of May 9-13

Dear Target Students,

We had a busy week in Target! Our classes are either presenting projects or finishing up group projects to present next week. I am proud of your hard work and creativity. Next week, the week of May 16th, will be our last week of Target classes. Please read the special event schedule below:

Monday (2nd grade): Bring your Veggie creatures for Healthy Heart Day! Also, you may decide to bring in a healthy-heart snack to share with the class. Be sure you have enough samples for every student. I am proud of your research presentations, you did an excellent job this week. Also, interview someone that you feel shows heart and bring your responses to class (see handout).

Tuesday (4th grade): You will be presenting your new frog species at our international symposium of frogs. Please bring any costumes, props, food, etc, that you will need for your project. I can't wait to see your presentations! Parents, you are invited to come to our Target classroom at 9:30 a.m.

On Monday, May 23rd, the 5th grade Target students will be coming to the Target room for a special lunch at 12:00 p.m. I am so proud of all of your hard work, and I will miss you next year. I know you will continue to strive for excellence!

Thursday (3rd grade): I missed seeing you last week because of Field Day. This week you will be presenting your research to the class. Please be sure you have everything you need (visuals, notes, script, etc.) to teach the class about your heart problem. Also, bring your Vegetable/Fruit Creature! We will have a fun day celebrating our unit. You may choose to bring a healthy "heart" snack to share with the class. I'm looking forward to seeing you!

Friday (1st grade): Hear ye! Hear ye! The King and Queen coordinally invite you to attend the royal Cinderella celebration at 12:00 p.m. in the Media Center castle on Friday, May 20. Parents, you are welcome to come and view the Power Point presentations. I know it is a busy day for the first grade with the Awards Assembly in the morning. The Target students will be coming to Target AFTER lunch next Friday. Bring a Cinderella or book character costume that you can wear during your presentation. Remember, be creative, you can look around your house for something to wear. It will be a fun afternoon!

REMINDER FOR EVERYONE!!!!

You do not need to bring your Target bags anymore to school. Please clean out your binders over the summer to make room for new unit work next school year. I suggest you keep your journals as a keepsake of your learning and thoughts throughout the year. It will be fun to go back and read one day.

I will post one more blog message before the summer break. Please be sure to read it for clues about our upcoming units in August.

First Grade,

2,4,6,8, Save a special date! On Friday, May 20th, at 12:00 p.m. you will present your Cinderella Power Point shows to your parents and teachers. Parents, you will receive a formal invitation next week from your child. We hope you will share in our Cinderella celebration!

WEEKLY QUESTION: Write down 3 things that you've learned during our Power Point lessons and work time. What does it mean to work cooperatively?

ARE YOU READY????????????????????????????????

It is almost time to present you new frog species the other scientists at the national frog convention/frog fiesta. Next week you will have time to put together the rest of your presentation and information. Please come prepared and bring any scripts, props, costumes, etc. that you may need. You need to present your information in a creative way!!

We had a great time on our second field study this week with Ranger Hightower. One of our groups found 10 tadpoles! Awesome! One group found the largest water beatle that has ever been seen at Sibley Pond. Cool!

HOMEWORK: Write (or type) a final thank you card/letter to Ranger Hightower. Be sure to include interesting things you learned and saw during our time with him.

I will see some of you at the Frog Frolic tomorrow evening, May 6th! Can't wait to see you at 8:30 p.m. at the Cochran Shoals location.

 

Week of May 2-6

Second and Third Grade Cardiologists,

WOW! What a special treat to have Mrs. Hersh come and visit us on Monday. Mrs. Hersh has been working at St. Joseph's Hospital for 32 years, and she taught us some amazing things about the heart. I know your favorite part was getting a chance to see and touch REAL human hearts, lungs, and a brain! Wasn't it amazing to see the black damanged lungs from smoking? I hope you really learned a lot from her visit. 

Next week, you will be presenting your physical heart problem research tothe class. You have been working with your group over the past few weeks to create an informative (and creative) presentation about your topic. I will give you a little time to practice one last time with your group before we present. If there is anything at home (costumes, props, extra items) that you need to gather, please remember to do this. 

Second grade will present on Monday, May 9th. Third grade will present on Thursday, May 12th (in the afternoon after field day). 

HOMEWORK: Finish anything for your group presentation.
