Important Field Trip Reminders!

Target Students,

Please remember that we have a field trip for your Target class this week. The 2nd/3rd graders will travel to Raccoon Mtn. Caverns on Thursday, and the 4th/5th will attend the Medieval Times Theater on Friday. I am attaching important information for you to review with your parents at home. I am looking forward to seeing you, I know we are going to have a great time on our trip!

We had a busy, but productive week! I hope you all enjoyed your Friends and Family Lunch. Thanksgiving is a time to think about all that we are thankful for. I am thankful for all of you! Thank you for your dedication to learning. I am proud of your hard work!

Fourth and fifth grade we studied the main parts of a castle and learned how castles defended themselves. Fifth graders are building castles, please remember to bring any supplies that you need!

Second and third grade have been busy investigating the seven different types of caves. What type of cave is the Raccoon Mtn. Caverns that we’ll be visiting? Limestone! We will have fun identifying stalactites and stalagmites.

2^nd/3^rd Grade- Please remember to share you field trip reminder letter with your parents. Also, write your final pen-pal letter and bring it with you on December 1. If you’d like to turn it in early, you may bring it to the trailer.

• Due to Friends and Family lunch and the vocabulary parade, second grade students did not have the opportunity to turn in journals or Performance sheets today.

5^th Grade-  Share your field trip letter with your parents. Start working on your GBR project. Do not wait until the last minute to complete your poster! It is due on December 14.

*** Our next Target class will be on our field trip days. Second and Third grade will be going to Chattanooga on Thursday, December 1. Fourth and fifth grade will be going to the Medieval Times Theater on December 2. Please read over your field trip reminder sheets! I look forward to our field trips!!

 

 

 

 

Week of November 7-11

Fourth and Fifth Grade,

FOURTH GRADE: I missed you on Tuesday! I hope you had a nice break away from school. We will pick up where we left off this coming week.

Please remember to decide on your character for your GBR research project. Start looking for books, websites, and reliable sources to locate information about your person. You do not want to wait until the last minute to do your project!

FIFTH GRADE: Please remember to continue collecting recycable items for your castle project. Next week, you will work with your group and begin construction.

HOMEWORK: GBR character research. Research, read, and and write your responses on your planning worksheet. Be prepared next week!!!

**** Our field trip to Medieval Times Theater is coming up (the week after Thanksgiving)! Please make sure you have turned in your permission form and money. I will be sending home a reminder sheet next week about our field trip.

Week of November 7-11

Second and Third Grade Target Friends,

We completed our bat research this week in the media center. Your foldable is filling up with amazing bat facts and research! We will continue to add more information to our foldables.

Did you have fun sharing your ABC bat words with your new bat groups? Remember, you do not need to do a GBR project at home this nine weeks. We will be working together at school (in a team) to create an ABC book using Power Point. We are learning a lot about collaboration and cooperation!

REMINDER! Next week is Friends and Family lunch. Second grade, you will return to your homeroom class next Thursday to eat with your friends and family. After lunch is over, you'll return to finish your day with Mrs. Covington and Mrs. Clatterbaugh.

UPDATE! Our field trip to Racoon Caverns in Chattanooga, TN, is approaching! All money and permission slips were due last Friday, and I should have everyone's paperwork complete. I will be sending home an information letter this coming week with details about our trip. Please read the information carefully! Let me know if you have any questions.

*** REMINDER: Fifth grade will meet next FRIDAY instead of Wednesday. This change is for next week only. Thank you for being flexible!!

Fourth and Fifth Grade,

Did you enjoy our medieval activities this week? Fourth grade completed their stations about knighthood while the fifth grade begun their study of the castle. We will continue next week with parts of the castle and how each part was significant.

Fourth grade, no Target next week due to Election Day and your day off from school. Please use your time off to look at your character research project (GBR). Select a character that you'd like to research and begin looking for reliable sources of information.

Fifth grade, please remember to collect recyclable items around your house. You and your team members will begin to develop your blueprint plans next week for your medieval castle. Refer to your castle parts worksheet so you can begin thinking of the items that would fit each part.

4th Grade HOMEWORK: Correct your homework sheet from "Roles of the Church" if needed. Many of you rushed through your hw and did not complete this last week. Also, share your GBR character project sheet with your parents. Decide on a character to research and begin researching.

5th Grade HOMEWORK: Decide on your GBR character project. Also, complete the Castle Parts Worksheet. Collect items around your house (shoe box, tissue box, oatmeal can, papertowel tubes, etc.). BRING your items to class next week!!! One person from your group should be bringing a base for your castle (cardboard pizza box, foam board, etc.). Follow the guidelines on your worsheet instructions!!

WEEKLY QUESTION: Reflect on our study of the middle ages. Write down at least three things that you've learned and three things that you still want to learn more about.

Week of October 31- November 4

CHANGE!!! Second Grade Target will meet on Wednesday of this coming week. This will only be for this week. Please bring your Target bag and materials to school on WEDNESDAY!!

Second and Third Grade Bat Experts,

I am really proud of your research skills. You worked hard this week researching in the media center on the laptops to learn more about a specific micro and mega bat. We will finish organizing our information next week and make sure we have created our foldables.

What does the word "balance" mean? We will begin working with an introductory program to algebra by investigating how to balance equations. We will use balance scales (math scales) to show how different numbers add together to create number sentences and equations. I know you will enjoy this new challenge!

For the second nine-weeks of Target, your GBR project will be completed at school. You will be assigned a group next week to work with. You and your group members will create a Bat ABC book. After deciding on your words and ideas, you will begin designing a Power Point to show your knowledge and creativity! There may be a few things that you will need to do to complete the project at home. I know you will enjoy this project!

HOMEWOK: Work on your ABC Bat Book planning sheet. Write ONE word for each letter of the alphabet. Next to the word, write a short description and how the word relates to bats. Remember, use your Dr. FEFO skills (divergent thinking), and be creative and original with your ideas!

WEEKLY QUESTION: How many different ways can you make the number 28? REmember, show your number sentences and how they equal each other. You may use words and pictures too.

REMINDER!!! Field trip money for our field trip to Chattanooga is due TOMORROW, Friday, November 4. Please return the money and permission form as soon as possible. Thank you!

Meet author Brian Lies, hear a reading from one of his acclaimed children's books, and get an autograph!

Lies is the author of "Bats at the Beach," "Bats at the Library" and "Bats at the Ballgame."

He will do readings and autograph sessions at at 2, 3 & 4 PM.

The books are available for purhcase in the Tellus Store..

Each reading will be followed by a book signing in our alcove in the Great Hall.
