Hi Eastvalley Family,
It's official, we have a new eagle at Eastvalley and her name is Ella! We had a naming contest and the students of Eastvalley voted to name the eagle Ella. We have 24 stuffed eagles (similar to Beanie Babies) that you will be able to check out and take on vacation with you. If you've ever had a "Flat Stanley" project or heard of it, this is a similar process. Here's how it works.
We have a bulletin board at the end of the front hallway that has a huge world map attached to it. The title of the board is "Where in the World...?" Ella the Eagle is going to help us learn about geography as she travels around the globe with our very own students.
When you are planning to go on a vacation to any state or other country, you can check Ella the Eagle out for the duration of your trip. While you are on your trip we ask that you take pictures of your student with Ella the Eagle at landmarks of the state/country you are visiting. Please make sure we can tell from the picture where Ella the Eagle is traveling! For instance, if you are in New York City, you may take a picture of Ella the Eagle at the Empire State Building or if you were in San Francisco, perhaps at the Golden Gate Bridge. When you return, you must return Ella the Eagle (in good condition) to school and send in a picture or two that you took while traveling. On the back of each picture, please write the student's name, city/state and landmark name. We will then display the pictures on the bulletin board for everyone to see where Ella the Eagle has been traveling. Pictures will not be returned so please make extra copies if you would like to keep one.
There are 24 Ellas available for checkout. The process will be to fill out the permission form and turn it in to Ms. Wacker to reserve your Ella the Eagle. The permission form is here Download Ella the Eagle Checkout Form and will also be posted on the Eastvalley website soon. This is a "first come, first served" process. I hope that everyone will get Ella to travel with when they want one, but holidays and breaks may be especially busy!
Thank you for helping the students of Eastvalley learn geography! Don't forget to check out our bulletin board in the front hallway when you are visiting. Ella has already traveled to New York City, Cambridge Massachusetts, and the Fox Theatre in downtown Atlanta!
