Week of August 29

Hi Eastvalley Family,

Week 3 is off to an excellent start.  Students and teachers came in this morning excited to get this week started!  Routines and procedures seem to be in place and everything is running like clockwork!  Thanks for helping us by sending your child prepared to learn every day. 

We are having several people catching summer colds right now!  Remember to wash hands frequently and sneeze/cough into the elbow instead of the hands.  Teachers are using those Clorox wipes to wipe tables and doorknobs to try to keep germs from spreading.  If your child is absent from school, you do not have to call the school that day.  Please send a note with the reason of absence on their first day back.  Remember, too, that your child must be fever free for 24 hours WITHOUT medication before they can come back to school.  This will help keep them away when contagious.  Let's try to keep everyone healthy this year! 

Boosterthon is Thursday.  You are invited to join us as we cheer the students on during their fun run.  K-2 will be outside participating from 8:15-9:30 and 3rd-5th will be outside from 9:30-10:45.  It is such a fun time and made even more special when parents are lining the "Boosterthon Speedway" cheering everyone on!  Thanks to all of those that have helped their children get pledges and will help them collect the money.  Eastvalley PTA and I appreciate your support!! 

After you've spent your morning cheering on the students, join us at Bruster's on Lower Roswell Rd. for some ice cream after school.  This spirit day (3-5 p.m.) is sponsored by the Eastvalley Foundation and a portion of the proceeds go directly back to Eastvalley. What a fun way to cool off after a fun run!!

Remember that there is no school Monday, September 5 for the Labor Day holiday.  Enjoy your 3 day weekend! 

 

A Great Start!

Hi Eastvalley Family,

Welcome back to school year 2011-12!  Thank you for helping us have such a smooth start to the school year.  With the summer construction/renovations, we have felt the pressure to get everything ready and in order to welcome our students.  I think, for the most part, we have succeeded!  The building and awning look great and the back area with the new awnings has been met with great enthusiasm from students and teachers.  They will really appreciate it on the first rainy day!

We have grown at Eastvalley!  We ended last school year with 615 students and are now at 650 students.  We welcome all of our new parents and students.  Eastvalley is truly a "Little School with a Big Heart" and we look forward to having you on our team. 

One of the procedures that is critical to us is afternoon dismissal.  As I said at Parent Orientations, it is the scariest time of day for us.  We want to make sure that all students get home safely.  You can help us out by doing the following:

1.  Write your teacher a note when your child is changing they way he/she goes home at dismissal.  Please do not email a teacher a change as they may not check their email prior to dismissal. 

2.  Help your child learn their new carpool number!  The line will move much faster if your child listens and knows their number.

3.  If your child is a car rider, they will not be dismissed to a person in the cafeteria.  You must be in your car and provide your carpool number.

4.  If your child is a walker, please meet them on the front porch at approximately 2:30 to walk home.

5.  If your child needs a bus pass because he/she is riding on a different bus or is getting off his/her regular bus at a different stop, please go to our website (www.eastvalleyelementary.com) and look down the left column under Bus Pass.  Click and follow the directions to make sure your child has a bus pass for the day they need it.

Thank you for helping us keep all our children safe and in a routine.  Only emergency calls will be allowed to change dismissal plans.  Please talk with your children in the morning about their afternoon dismissal so they are sure of how to go home.
